What you can do with Claude and Precursive AI

Precursive AI generates an insight for a record - a summary of what is happening, a score, citations and recommended actions. Connecting Claude lets you carry on from there in conversation, working from the same Salesforce data the insight was built from.

Once connected, you can:

• Pick up where an insight leaves off. Choose Continue in... > Claude on any insight and the conversation starts with the context that insight was generated from - not a copy and paste of the summary.
• Ask the questions the summary does not answer. "Which of these tasks are actually overdue, and who owns them?" "What has changed since the last insight?" Claude reads the full data snapshot behind the insight, not just the headline.
• Draft the work that comes next. A client status email, a QBR narrative, a risk register entry, an update for your delivery channel - written from live project data rather than something you retype.
• Work across several records at once. "Compare the insights for my five at-risk projects and tell me which needs attention first."
• Generate a fresh insight on demand when a record does not have one yet, or when the data behind it has gone stale.
• Ask what is available. "Which Zen Agents can I use, and what does each one analyse?"

What it will not do

The connection reads insights and generates new ones. It cannot create or edit your Salesforce records. Recommended actions are still run from the Precursive AI component on the record page - see Viewing Insights and Taking Action.

What Claude can see

Claude connects as you. Every request runs under your own Salesforce login, so sharing rules and field-level security apply exactly as they do in the app. Claude cannot reach a record, or a field, that you could not open yourself.

Before you start

You need two things, and your administrator provides both:

• The Precursive AI Standard permission set. This is the same permission set that lets you see insights on record pages, so if you can already see them you have it.
• The Precursive AI MCP connector, set up in Claude for your organisation. If you cannot see it in your connector list, your administrator has not added it yet - point them at Setting Up the Precursive AI MCP Server.

There is nothing to configure and no address or key to copy. Everything is set up for you.

Connect

You only need to do this once. After that, Claude stays connected.

1. In Claude, go to Settings > Connectors.
2. Find Precursive AI MCP in the list and choose Connect.
3. Claude sends you to your Salesforce login page. Sign in as you normally would and approve the request.

That is it. The connector now shows as connected and the Precursive AI tools are available in your conversations. Claude Desktop works the same way.

Continue an insight in Claude

This is the quickest way in, because it carries the record and the agent across for you.

1. Open a record that has a Precursive AI insight.
2. In the Precursive AI component, open the Zen Agent dropdown.
3. Choose Continue in... and pick Claude.

A new Claude conversation opens with a prompt already filled in, naming the Zen Agent and the record. Type your own question underneath it and send.

The link itself carries identifiers only - never the content of the insight. Claude then loads the real data through the connector under your own Salesforce login, where sharing and field-level security are applied again.

If your organisation has not set up the MCP server yet, the conversation still opens but Claude will not be able to load the context. You will see a notice in Salesforce telling you so - pass it on to your administrator.

Starting from Claude instead

You do not have to begin on a record page. Once you are connected you can simply ask, and Claude will find the right record and read its insight. For example:

• "What does the Project Status agent say about the Acme rollout?"
• "Show me the latest insights for my active projects and flag anything at risk."
• "Draft a status update to the client for the Northwind implementation, based on the latest insight."

Troubleshooting

Precursive AI MCP is not in my connector list

Your administrator has not added it for your organisation yet, or you are signed in to a different Claude workspace. Ask your administrator to check.

Connecting fails, or sign-in returns an error

If your administrator set this up very recently, the underlying app can take up to around 30 minutes to become usable. Wait and choose Connect again. If it still fails, ask your administrator to confirm the setup - the error is on the Salesforce side, not something you can fix.

I am connected but Claude cannot find any Precursive AI tools

Ask your administrator to confirm the MCP server has been deployed in the org, and that it has been updated since the last Precursive release.

"Continue in..." does not appear in the Zen Agent dropdown

The list of assistants is controlled by your administrator, who can turn individual assistants on and off. Ask them to check the AI Assistant Handoff URL settings.

Claude says it cannot see a field you can see in Salesforce

This is field-level security, not a fault. Claude reads with your permissions, and a field you can see on a page layout is not always readable through the API for your profile. Ask your administrator to grant read access to that field.

Claude cannot find a record you know exists

Check that it is a record type one of your Zen Agents is configured for, and that you have access to it. Asking Claude "which Zen Agents are available and what do they run on?" is a quick way to see what is in scope.
